The International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA) is an association with full legal capacity (Vereniging met volledige rechtsbevoegdheid), registered in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. It is officially listed in the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (Kamer van Koophandel) under registration number 34139641.

Since 2011, IFMSA holds the status of a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO)- Algemeen Nut Beogende Instelling (ANBI). Its RSIN (Rechtspersonen en Samenwerkingsverbanden Informatienummer) is 809786382.

Mission & Goals

Mission:
IFMSA unites medical students worldwide to lead initiatives that impact positively the communities we serve. IFMSA represents the opinions and ideas of future health professionals in the field of global health and works in collaboration with external partners. IFMSA builds capacity through training, projects and exchange opportunities while embracing cultural diversity so as to shape a sustainable and healthy future.

Goals:
The goal of the Federation is to serve society and medical students all over the world through its member organizations by:
a. Empowering medical students in using their knowledge and capacities for the benefit of society.
b. Providing a forum for medical students throughout the world to discuss topics related to individual and community health, education and science and to formulate policies from such discussions.
c. Promoting and facilitating professional and scientific exchanges as well as projects and extracurricular training for medical students, thereby sensitizing them to other cultures and societies and their health problems.
d. Providing a link between members, medical students’ associations and international organizations, and to encourage the co-operation between them for the ultimate benefit of society.

Remuneration Policy

The Officials, Board Members, and Volunteers of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA) do not receive any remuneration for their roles. All positions within the Federation are voluntary and unpaid.
Reimbursements may be provided strictly for expenses incurred during the execution of official duties (e.g., travel, accommodation, or administrative costs), in accordance with IFMSA’s internal financial regulations and approval processes.
At present, IFMSA does not employ any paid staff. Should paid staff be hired (e.g., within the IFMSA Secretariat), they will be employed under standard Dutch employment contracts, and their remuneration will follow fair market conditions and nonprofit sector guidelines.

This policy reflects IFMSA’s commitment to transparency, good governance, and its non-profit mission.
